'Become a Patient Safety Trainer' Conference and Professional Development Workshop
The "Become a Patient Safety Trainer" Conference and Professional Development Workshop is a three-day educational event for those who want to become patient safety trainers in order to teach core patient safety skills to others. The first half of the conference is a thorough exploration of not only the importance of patient safety to the modern healthcare environment, but also some of the key elements that make up the field as whole and how best to tackle improving safety culture within an organization. Topics such as human factors design, systems thinking, teamwork, and patient engagement are discussed by experts in the areas of patient safety and medical education. In addition, participants receive PSEP educational materials including the PSEP curriculum, PowerPoint slides, and trigger videos. The second half of the conference focuses on the development of teaching skills and development of a specific quality improvement intervention. The goal is to equip and empower participants to take what is learned during this time directly translate it into actionable projects within the workplace. Participants will first learn about teaching and quality improvement methods in didactic sessions and will then participate in hands-on practice techniques.
